Ok. I'm sure you've felt this way at least once before. Do you ever buy things with the plastic packaging that you can't get in to unless you have a knife? God! That really fucking sucks! I know it's probably for antitheft, but jesus! It's crazy how you have to risk a finger, hand or a slit throat just to open something like that.

Antitheft? Yeah freaking right! If I could hang a bastard whose job is packaging goods for every time I've torn a cornflakes bag and the cereal drops out like guts from a gutted belly, for every time I've opened a doritos bag and the chips fall out like leaves from a shaken dried up tree, I'd put the hangman outa business. Those God damn bastards!

Blake,

Good to see you've become hip to the charades. It's all a scheme I tell Ya! You lose a finger, a pint of blood (etc) getting into one of those damned packages, and sue company X, thereby bring money to our bloated justice system!

I have a nack for getting in to crisps and cereals packets. Just hold the packet by the top end, pull both sides of the packet gently apart, then tease the end open with your finger nails. That way, the packet can stay in the box, the contents are still intact, and all's well that ends well. As for those dreadful moulded electricals and headphones, packs you can never get in to, just go for 'em, with a pair of rusty scissors.

Opening plastic packaging is my partner's bug bear, but its easier for me with sharp talons.

That is one reason I carry a knife with me. Carve that package up like a turkey.

Just a couple days ago I had to open a package with new headphones. God! I used scissors and had to struggle probably for 15 minutes to get the damn thing open enough to wear I could reach in, without slitting my wrists, to pull out the headphones.

Many years ago my dad wrote a short story, unfortunately lost to time, about a man marooned in the desert. He was found dead, with dozens and dozenso f unopened blister packs of food and liquid littering the ground around him. I hate those things with a passion! The only way I have found to open those things is by brute force, sacrificing bits of skin and much sanity in the process.

Sounds like a good story idea. Very ironic.

Take a knife, shove knife blade through the hole that the pack hung on the hook with at the store. Pull up with knife, cutting the package, open from there it's really quite simple.

I know what you mean! And how about those new electronics or toys you buy and they are tied down with a bunch of wires, twist ties, etc. Very frustrating!

Jared, that doesn't always work. It doesn't always open cleanly. Sometimes you have to practically shred the damn thing.

Post 13 by frequency (the music man) on Tuesday, 28-Nov-2006 23:59:37

yes. like the hole where the product was hung isn't always part of the actual seal.

Post 14 by AngelKisses (An angel with no Halo) on Thursday, 30-Nov-2006 9:51:18

yes, I hate those. And what if the product is broken when you finally get it out? Well you can't really take it back because the package is shredded and usually they won't take anything back unless it's in the package. So yeah. Very frustrating.

if they don't want people getting the products it would be easier to put them in concrete! i hate those things too, and all my computer stuff comes in them! help me!

well there's some good news. I just heard that they're going to try and do away with all plastic packaging. Hopefully, you'll be able to just tear cardboard.

God, that would be wonderful. Problem is, it wouldn't be theft-enhibiting enough. I've done the thing of putting the knife in the hole, but like Becky said, it doesn't always work. Alternatively, I try and very carefully take my knife and go down one side or another of the packaging. If you need to return the product, you can always re-tape the package. I read somewhere that one of the little gadjet places came up with a device for breaking open those packages.

that would be intresting to see.

I agree that plastic packaging is a royal pain in the ass. What's the gadget called that just opens them for you?

Where can one get this wonderful blister-pack-opening tool? I hate opening those things. I'd guess a cardboard package would be easier to recycle. That may be reason enough for some to switch to it.

Post 21 by Dubstep1984 (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 31-Dec-2007 11:33:41

yeah those r in a pain in the ass to open. i was opening a discman package a few years ago. i opened it with a knife just a tiny bit and tried to pull it the rest of the way open. my finger landed on a sharp place that the knife had left in the package and i started to bleed.

I can't say thatI've really had problems with normal packages like cereal or chips. Those are pretty easy for me. But those annoying ones like headphones etc are my speciality. It started out as a joke, to see if I could open it with my bare hands, and I did. Now, it's sort of a tradition for me to do it. I love the challenge of the thing, trying to see how I could do it without getting cut and with the least amount of work. I've become quite good at it, to the point where I can usually get it open enough where I just have to pull on both ends andgrab the object out. It's a bit tough to do though, and I wouldn't recommend it if you get hurt easily. The trick is to stick your finger in the little hole that they use for hanging and try to separate the two pieces of plastic. There is, however, one that I absolutely hate with a passion. It's the stupid ones with that dusty stuff. I donno what it's called. It's not styrafoam and it's not bubble rap. Blind places use them alot for braille books. It gets all over the place!

i dont think they will due away with plastic packaging although they should. plastic is a waste of resources and a major strain on our environment, not to mention chemical laiden as well. look up thalates on google
